The Transamerica Pyramid is the tallest skyscraper in the San Francisco skyline and one of its most iconic. Designed by architect William Pereira, it stands at 850 feet, upon completion in 1972 it became the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi from 1972 to 1974, and was among the five tallest buildings in the world.
